I had my first dance battle this past weekend! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO tired I am on sleep day number 3. I had the flu the entire week preceding the dance competition and am currently recuperating from that as well.
So I had NO idea what all this day would include but I tried to loosely prepare myself. I thought there would be hair makeup and wardrobe issues... there were. I thought there would be forgotten and misplaced items, tardiness and even some personality conflicts.... there were. They didn't have things they needed to perform... props... music. It was CHAOTIC to say the least. The venue filled up rather quickly, which gave me anxiety about family members who purchased tickets but were still not present.... I had already told them though in my preparations the days before to get there early because I didn't know what to expect, and I was right. SO at this point there wasn't anything more I could do. Then trying to remain positive for the girls who were ready to dance their little hearts out!
I did not know that there would be so much pride seeing my daughter perform beautifully and feeling such and overwhelming since of accomplishment as a parent, a mother. Even when she did things I knew I had told her not to do, like playing before the performance and totally running her performance tights.... UGH!!!!!!!! I was SO aggravated and then I did it. I exhaled and said I will enjoy the show no matter what, I will not let something that small keep me from enjoying the months of practice she has done to prepare for this ONE DAY! And, SHE NAILED IT! She was beautiful, graceful, sassy, and very energetic! And I thought to myself... WOW! That's my child!
It was a very stressful day full of ups and downs, twists and turns....
I had to learn on the fly in being a new dance mom I have to know when and how to let the small things GO, quickly... because there is going to be several mishaps the day of a performance some for which you cannot prepare yourself, and the attitude I take will set the tone for the event as a whole! So going with the flow is BEST!
